-my optical cable is red only on one end of the cable... is this right? or is my cable fried? The red light is the light coming from whatever you have the optical cable plugged into...
It's like holding a flashlight up to a tube... will the light still be there if you take away the flashlight?
Anyways, your cable is fine.
it is only red on the end opposite where it is plugged into the sound source

I can't connect my Xbox 360 Slim to the Surround Sound?
-I've been trying to connect my Xbox 360 Slim to my surround sound system for a long time now, and I just can not get it to work! On the Xbox website it says to plug the HDMI cable into the TV for video, and then connect one end of the digital audio cable to the Xbox, and the other to the receiver. I do this, and the sound is still only coming from the TV. I've tried changing a million settings on the receiver itself, but I still can't get it to work! Any help? What type of surround sound do you have, is it a receiver or one of them home theater in a box. Home theater in a box are not very flexible in adding anything to it and normally will only have an optical audio input if any. those bargain price home theater some time only have an rca jack for stereo input at most. If you have your XBOX connected to the tv via HDMI, the you need to connect an optical audio from the tv to the home theater or receiver to have sound. If you have a receiver you can connect the XBOX directly to the receiver using HDMI cable and then connect the receiver to the tv using HDMI cable. Keep in mind if you use HDMI cable that you set your XBOX to output the video and audio via HDMI cable. Receiver usually will have at less two set of input for the optical audio. Hope this will help you out.

How do I configure my speakers?
-Hello,
I am trying to connect my speakers so that they can be used by my television, dvd player and pc. Could someone please offer me some suggestions? It is a bass unit and two speakers.
ThanksIf your speakers have a built it amplifier with only one input then connect it to TV audio output (I hope your TV has it).
Connect DVD player and PC to TV (either with HDMI or any other connection, don't forget to connect the audio to TV's audio ins)
It may not work very nicely if you use PC without TV - then you need some kind of selector device
If you just have speakers and you still need an amplifier than you are in luck - just get and AV receiver with sufficient number of inputs and you are good. I also suggest Logitech Harmony remotes - they can automatically switch your receiver's inputs depending on your activity.I second Aleks answer... you need a receiver ..... and the Harmony remotes are awesome, I own several however they are few bucks though. You can buy a decent receiver used for around $100 if you don't need to have all the latest technology flavours of the year

Is 1/4 880 220?............?
-How pathetic.Since you obviously know how to use a computer, you could use the "Calculator" function found under "Accessories"...or you could learn to do simple arithmetic like this in your head...
yes, pathetic.

I have a question about the Panasonic DMP-BD60 DVD/Blu-ray player?
-I've been trying to get my video files to play on it, a burned DVD does not work, nor my USB drive or my SDHC card. What file format do these need to be in?? I've tried .avi (Xvid and DivX), all kinds of .mpg's, working on AVCHD now...also NTSC, etc. DVD formats. Nothing I've tried seems to work, does anyone know what file format any of those needs? Thank you, and much appreciation!

Question about surround sound and t.v. opticle cables?
-Hi, I am trying to get surround sound for my x box. To get that I know I need a toslink but im not sure if my tv or my surround sound is compatible with that.
On the back of my surround sound: Antenna(Am, Coaxial 75 fm), tv/video(white and red. audio in), video out, component video out( red-Pr/Cr, blue-Pb/Cb, green-y), DMPORT, HDMI out, Digital in(coaxia, optical),
On the tv:Phone, PC audio in, TV ant, CR/Pr, Cb/Pb, Y, VGA, HDMI
surround has dolby pro logic and I was told to have surround that you can hear what is behind you in the game is behind you with the sound (5.1 surround i think its called) you had to have toslink.
Please tell me what i need to get in order to have 5.1 and where to plug it into. Thank youYou connect your XBOX to the tv using HDMI cable, make sure that you have the XBOX set up to output the video and audio via HDMI cable. Then you connect an optical cable from the tv to your home theater. To hear the sound you turn the XBOX and tc on, you also turn your home theater on and see if it has an input selector. Some system will automatically trigger the sound in the incoming signal from the optical input (check the owners manual of your system). Hope this will help you out.
Geoff is correct.
Go buy a Toslink Optical cable long enough to reach from the jack on the back of the 360 to the Digital In (optical) on the back of your 'surround sound'.
NOTE: Many optical cables have a tiny rubber dust cap on the end of either side of the cable. It is so small, you can actually connect the cable with the cap in place. Then you wonder why your sound cuts out. Check for this and remove the cap.
toslink = optical... so optical out of Xbox and into surround sound

What do I need to purchase to run the Wirless Speakers for my Sony HTSF470 System?
-I just purchased the Sony HTSF470 Sound System and it says that I need to buy components to run my back speakers wireless. Something about an S-Air system? Can anyone tell me what I need to buy?The answer is right there in your manual.
What model speakers are these?
-I inherited a pair of ads floor standing speakers but don't know what model they are. on the back there is an amp that says PA1 but i think that's just the model of the amp and not the speakers all together. they have two 6.5" woofers (i think that's the size) and then a .5" tweeter and a 1-2" tweeter. i know they are also older models.Although I cannot add to any information about the speakers themselves I would like to add information about the PA1 amplifier.
ADS did offer a PA1 Biamplifier (module) powered option in 1986 or 1987 that mounted down at the base of the L1290 and L1590 speakers (only). The cost was $1200 (per pair), and I don't think ADS offered the option for very long due to its added cost. By late 1987, with the introduction of the new "Unison" M9, M12 and M15 (equivalent to the older L1590), the power module was not available, to my knowledge, or at least I've never seen one in use with the M12 or M15.
http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Bo鈥?/a>Do they look like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/m鈥?/a>
That's the ADS L-710. Nice speakers. Take care of them. Hook them up to a nice, high quality receiver and they will give you years of pleasure. They are far better then the plastic box speakers that are so common today. To be specific they are comprised of two 7 inch woofers, a 2 inch dome midrange and a 1 inch dome tweeter. They will handle 75 watts nominal and 150 peak.
The amp is a completely separate component when compared to the speakers... so it most likely is not the same brand name.
Also, there should be a brand name on the speakers... there always is. Driver size doesn't say anything... there are half a million speakers out there with 6.5'' woofers, etc, etc, etc.
Sorry
... Sounds like Dances with Cats got it. Good luck!

How do I make a VGA to RGB cable?
-Here is what I am trying to make, I know it's possible because there is not any hardware in between the vga connector and the RGB cords, but I don't know what pins, or in my case wires, to splice the cables on to. I have a multimeter, so just the pins I need will work.
http://www.globalgroupbuy.com/images/pro鈥?/a>
I need to make a VGA to RGB cable to hook one of my desktop computers to my HD television, but I don't know if the method I have in mind will actually work. Last time I had a VGA cable apart, I noticed there where the cables red, green, and blue, along with thier shield wires, and I was just planning on hooking the rca cords up to each of those. My question of course is will that work? I'm not to familiar with RGB, all I know is I don't want to go buy one of these if I have the material right here at home. Please and thank you in advance!
=)not possible imho

-jus wondering because i have a small alba flatscreen hd tv in my bedroom, and im buying a blu-ray player tomorow :)It does not matter what size tv you connect your blu ray disc player to. On that small screen you are not going to get the best video resolution at all compare to watching it on a dvd player. Hope this will help you out.
The player doesn't care what kind of reciever it sends it's signal to.

How do i hook up my surround sound?
-I have a tv ps3 and wii. I have a stereo system also. can i hook up my tv to my reciever so which ever input im on it will come through stereo? which output do i use and which cord or cable do i need to go buy? thanks for any help im not very good at this. I just got a new tv and the sound pretty much sucks. :(So if you just want your sound to work for now, your tv has an "audio out", take a regular rca cord (white, red, yellow) and plug the white and red into ur tv, then into audio in on ur receiver. Now, u should have the same cords for ur ps3 and wii. Do the same thing with those and plug them into your receiver. Now everything should work until you get those special cords the other guy said.If you have a receiver with HDMI input then HDMI cable out from your PS3 into a HDMI input on your receiver.
If you don't have a HDMI receiver then you need a fiber optic cable called Toslink that goes from your PS3 into your receiver (it may be called optical, toslink or S/PDIF on the back of your receiver) this is only for sound. Then use an HDMI cable between your PS3 and TV. When your PS3 detects your TV via your HDMI it will ask you if you "want to use HDMI for both video and sound" This is totally stupid but you have to say "yes" even though you are not going to use HDMI for sound. If you say no then you will have no picture, so say yes! Then you have to go into the sound options (from the suitcase logo in the XMB) and choose output sound via Optical..... Bob's your uncle
well no all you have to do is connect the audio form the PS# to the receiver and than play, the video will go to the TV and the audio will come out on the speakers of the receiver

Small speaker reciever?
-is there such thing as like a little speaker reciver to take the speaker wires from the speaker and to have rca cables so i can connect the little speaker to my laptop. i understand that the speaker needs power which it gets from the stereo receiver or receiver amp. i wanna know do they sell little small ones for practical use so its like speaker connects to reciever- receiver to power and rca. thats it just a small simple one.No. but you can buy a small speaker for your laptop. and if you want to connect your laptop to your receiver then all you need is a cable that goes to your laptop to RCA input connection.

Can you use 2 Composite video connectors as the white and red RCA audio connectors?
-I have an abundance of yellow Composite video cables that I got rather cheaply. can I put two of them together to make an audio RCA connection?Yes - you can use Video cables for audio, but not the reverse.
"Cheap "video" cables are the same as audio cables, but with yellow plugs."
Only sometimes.
Look - have you ever gone over a speed-bump? Do it at 5 mph, no problem. Do it at 40 mph - and you destroy your car.
Video signals are much higher frequency than audio. To prevent problems like a speed bump, the input electronics on a TV have a property called "Impedance" that is specified to be 75 ohms.
All video cables are made with 75 ohm coax to match. Otherwise the video signals will hit a 'speed bump'.
Audio cables CAN be made with 75 ohm coax, but they can also be made with 50 ohm or even 300 ohm coax. And you cannot tell by looking at them what the impedance is.
So it is always safe to use video cables for audio, but not the reverse.
Hope this helps.

Question about ordering a subwoofer online?
-I bought an A2-300 from Edesignaudio.com, and the next I received an email saying that my order was placed "In production/awaiting production". How long (approximately) does this mean?its on back order, so depending where the subwoofer gets made,, it could be 1 week to 3 months before you can get it,,
Asking here won't do any good.
Contact the company you ordered it from and inquire.
Why are you asking us instead of the vendor?

How much will a home theather system cost for me?
-i would like really loud, nice sound, really loud, full of base mainly, like enough like enough that people put in their cars
would speakers and subs would i need to get, and could you tell me some that i could get from like bestbuy or futureshop or something , i live in vancouver bc,
i have a budget of 4000$ and i just like a simple not very expensive led projector that ive found many and only cost like 500-1000$ and have 3d,
so 4000$ is my budget for projector and sound system, so what speakers and subs should i get and reicever , the inches of the sub etc, thank you, and any projector led plz suggestions thank youI would recommend you go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on speakers and tv. Staying with name brand for better quality and reliability. For receiver I would recommend a Pioneer, Pioneer Elite or the Onkyo. For speakers, Definitive Technology, Energy, Infinity, JBL, Focal, Klipsch and Polk Audio to name a few. I would demo them at your local retail store and bring a cd to listen to and only listen to one song. I have used Pioneer Elite and Onkyo receivers for well over 30 years had have had no problems. For Speakers Martin Logan, Infinity, JBL, Energy and Klipsch, again no complain from any of the speakers. Hope this will help you out.
Klipsch reference series loud speakers - 2 on each side, 2 at the front, woofer, and center $5000
Denon or Yamaha 7.1 surround receiver $2500
bright LCD projector $2000
forget the big box appliance stores like Best Buy, and find a shop for videophiles

Some weird cable product?
-All I want is a product that will let me connect an xBox and my computer to my VGA computer monitor.
What is the difference between an a/v receiver and an a/v switch?
-I've always known about lan switches, but I have just discovered that there is such a thing as a digital a/v switch, which appears to have the same basic functionality while being about 80% less cost-wise than the $300 a/v receivers we can get in most electronics retail stores.
Can anyone tell me what the intrinsic differences are? Obviously, both let you swap from pc to blu ray sound to cable, etc., but is that all that standard a/v receivers do, or do they have amplifiers and such built in that make them worth spending 80% more on?
Here is an example of an a/v switch that I found, although since I just found them, I can't say if it's representative of a "good one" or not: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-CPNT4鈥?/a>An AV Receiver is:
* An Amplifier. It takes line-level signals and adds WATTS of power to drive speakers
* A switcher
* Computer circuits to adjust levels, up-convert signals to output over HDMI, HDMI processing, etc.
* Receives AM/FM/HD Radio/Sat Radio, and even controls your iPod
* Equalization circuitry and microphone to calibrate the speakers to compensate for sitting at different distances and issues with room acoustics.
* Extra amps and outputs to feed sound to a second room
* etc.
It's a huge difference over a simple switch.
It is actually the center-hub of your home theater system and next to the TV - the most expensive part.
If you already have a good AV Receiver, but suddenly need to add in a PS3, XBox, Wii, or other devices and run out of input jacks, then you use a Switch to give you more inputs.
That switch ...is component.
Most modern AV Devices today use HDMI. The cables are cheaper with HDMI and tie the video and audio together into a single cable. Avoid that switch.
Get a good AV Receiver that will up-convert the component to HDMI so you run 1 cable to the TV, but can hook composite, svideo, component and HDMI into the receiver.
Look into the Onkyo TX-SR series of receivers that pack a lot of features into decent priced receivers.

Headphones vs Surround Sound Setup?
-I have aboutt 400 to spend should i get a 400 dollar Home Theater Setup with speakers and a sub.
Or should i get a 250 dollar headset and maybe a 150 dollar amp for it. I dont know too much about this audio stuff but i just wanna me mesmerized how good and realistic the sound is, any other recommendations? There are problems with both. That money will get you an ok surround setup and you'll have a surround system, but headdphones won't give you the surrond sound, obviously. Pretty much it's whatever your preference is, stereo vs. surround. $400 will get you a sweet pair of headphones with great sound, but in the end I don't think you'll be mesmerized by either. I would personally buy the surround setup or save more $$ and buy the components separate. Polk audio makes some of the best, and somewhat affordable, speakers in the business.
I would suggest a home theater setup, but buy a real receiver with HDMI switching, The Home theater in a box setups that include DVD/Blu-ray don't have enough connections for cable/satellite, video games, PC and other connections. A receiver makes more sense economically and you can always entertain guests. You can always connect headphones to the receiver anyway. My sister has an older version of the one below and it sounds great and is under your budget.

Will my Pioneer vsx 515 receiver safely power 6 Ohm speakers?
-I want to buy a pair of used KEF Q70 tower speakers but they're 6 Ohm. I've heard that 4 and 6 ohm speakers require a lot more power to push them. My Pioneer is a 6.1 channel 660 watts. 110 per channel.
Any advice will be helpful. Thanks! You are right in knowing that you will need more power to push a lower Ohm speaker. Home stereo systems are made to power an 8 ohm. The problem with hooking up a lower ohm is that your stereo will push itself harder to power them, which in turn can fry your stereo. I have hooked up car subwoofers to my Sony strdh-810 7.1 and didn't have a problem, but, I wouldn't suggest it.
It should be fine. What you want to avoid is the other way around a. An amp that's too powerful is the way to kill your speakers. Those speakers require 10-175 watts of power, so you are good.

HDMI Cables - Which One Should You Buy ?
-You should buy the right cables for the level of system you own.
A low end system will not allow you to see or hear the difference in better cables, and a system that is not well calibrated will also not allow you to see what better cables can provide.
Your local independent high end audio video store carry the better brand of cables worth the investment. The chain stores do not carry cables that are worth the larger costs they charge.
Kevin
40 years high end audio video specialistUnless you intend to install the cable in the wall (in which case you need a CL2 rated cable). need to connect devices more than about 10 ft apart (in which case a thicker wire is advisable), or need HDMI 1.4's "Ethernet interconnectivity function (in which case you need an "HDMI 1.4 with Ethernet" cable), you can safely buy almost any HDMI cable.
See the first 4 links for the proof.
So ... look for a high speed HDMI 1.4 certified cable (and since it doesn't add to the cost) with Ethernet. And don't buy longer than you need. For most uses you won't need to spend more than $10.
Monoprice, com or Bluejeanscable.com are good sources.
All HDMI cable are designed to work the same way. It is the material they use on the cable that can change the price of the cable. If you are connecting a 3D equipment then you will need the 1.4 HDMI cable. If you have a home theater in a box I would not spend more that $15 for a cable. Hope this will help you out.

RCA vs headphone socket for 2.0 speakers..?
-Is there any diffrence in sound quality if you link up 2.0 speakers to your tv via the rca vs the headphone socket using RCA to phono cable?? Ive heard if you use the RCA you cant change the volume using the tv remote but if you use the headphone socket you can. Any ideas if this changes the performance of the sound quality. The RCA sockets will be better quality.
Depending on the TV you may be able to adjust the volume control via the TV volume.
My Sony TV has a Audio System setting which turns off the TV speakers and outputs the sound via RCA and lets you us the TV volume control.

Help with my Optoma Pico Projector PK301?
-I just bought a refurbished Optoma Pico Projector but I don't know how to adjust the colors, if that's possible. From the projector itself, everything looks clear even from the memory card, but when I connect the laptop via VGA cable, everything is dim, a little blurry and the everything is in shades of green, blue and gray. No red, orange, etc.I haven't tried the mini hdmi cable because I don't have it yet, so I don't know whether I should return it or if i have to adjust something. I just can't figure it out, I need help. If anyone owns this model and could give me a tip, I'd really appreciate it, thank you for your time.
HDMI sound problem. What should I do?
-I am having a problem with HDMI audio. When I swtch songs or switch sounds it turns off and I have to disable it and then enable it in the sound. I have a windows 7 and THX tru studio sound card. plz help! Thanks.Unfortunately HDMI is a very poor technology and will soon be replaced by HDbasT. HDMI needs to make a "handshake" meaning the components hooked together via HDMI must detect each other to work. When no signal is detected between songs or switching the "handshake" is broken and the handshake is not being re-established. This is actually a software issue and some sort of update is need for your sound card or OS. When you are working with 2 very poor technologies (Microsoft Windows and HDMI technology) results can be expected to be sketchy. Look to update your sound card and see if this works. If not ditch HDMI for analogue or go coax for sound and component for video.

When wiring speakers is it bad to use thicker wires out of a stereo, then using thin wire to reach the speaker?
-My house is already wired for surround sound speakers but the speakers I recently got (for free, I would not have picked these) have hardwired (idk a better word) wires and therefore no input for my speaker wire. Instead of having to rewire my living room I was going to use the thicker wire out of the stereo and attach the thinner speaker wire to it in the middle. Is this bad or dangerous in any way? And does it affect sound quality?
The thick wire is not that much thicker maybe 3/2 the size of the thin.
STEREO ====thick====> -----thin-----> SPEAKERNo it's not dangerous - as in causing a fire - to do that. Thicker wire is better particularly for long runs. However with the quality of speaker that has the wire directly attached to it, you won't notice any difference with better wire. Just make sure that you make the splices nice and tight and tape them up well.
You should have no problems at all using the thicker gauge wire from your stereo and then going thinner. Hope this will help you out.

How do I adjust the bass and treble levels on my Pioneer VSX-515 receiver?
-This might be a long shot but I figured I would ask anyway just in case someone has it or is familiar with these pioneer receivers. The specs on this Receiver say it has independent bass and treble controls but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. I see where it gives me the option to raise the volume intensity of each speaker but that's different. I want to know how to control the bass and treble. Anyone??
ThanksI believe what they mean by independent bass and treble controls is just that - you have a bass control knob and a treble control knob rather than a 'tone' control. From what you are asking it appears to me that you are trying to adjust bass and treble for each speaker independently? I am unaware of any surround sound system that has that type of adjustment. Most receivers today does not have a separate tone control for the bass or treble control. They do however have separate control for the volume of each speakers and the subwoofer. Some have a equalizer control that can change to tone of the music, but they usually come in on the higher end receivers. Check you owners manual and see. Hope this will help you out.

Passive Speakers VS Active Speakers for Digital DJ'ing?
-Me and a friend are try to get equipment to start DJing. We plan on getting a laptop (any good suggestions besides MAC). We know we need Mics, Headphones, and possibly a mixer(do we need that) and we know we need speakers. Do we want to get Passive or Active. We figure were just gonna start out a parties and school dances locally and possible move up some day but for now what is the best to get. Whats the best at a reasonably price(brands) and is there anything else we need that i missed???? Thanks alot! any answers will be helpfull!I don't know.. Active speakers have amplifiers built into them and passive speakers you will need a amplifier...
I don't know much on active speakers so i will have to say passive with a nice amplifier/receiver
For brands i will say peavy, cerwin vega, behringer, crown, technics.. just stay away from cheap brands and you will be all set!
Definitely get a mac. If your serious about DJing then you should get a mixer as well. I know numark just released their NS6 which means that you could probably find people selling the NS7 for pretty cheap. From my experience and if you are serious about DJing you gotta go active. all pros have active. In terms of speakers I would check out brands like Alto Pro or Alesis. Also I am launching a group for Djs, please join! www.groups.yahoo.com/group/unitedjs

Xbox 360 & PC to one set of speakers.?
-Hi, can any of you recommend an audio switch which will allow me to run my Xbox 360 sound, and PC sound through my little Logitech 2.1 setup?
The Xbox 360 audio is output through RCA (but can be 3.5mm jack as I have an adapter which takes the RCA and changes to female 3.5mm jack), I use the 3.5mm output on the PC too, and my little 2.1 speaker system is 3.5mm male jack.
I don't have a huge budget :-(
Thank you kindly for your help!

Purchasing speaker for DVD Player...?
-I want to buy good speaker for my DVD Player, Pls let us know how to use speaker for my DVD Player...like home theaterIf you are trying to replace the speakers of your home theater in a box, I would not recommend it. Due to those home theater in a box are not very flexible and reliable. Most of the time they will not have enough power to drive a decent name brand speaker. A receiver is more dependable and flexible and provide more power than a home theater in a box. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on receivers and speakers. Pioneer and Onkyo are the top receiver in the market today. For speakers look at name brands like Definitive Technology, Energy, Focal, Infinity, JBL, Klipsch and Polk Audio to name a few. Demo them at your local retail store and bring your own source of music and listen to one song on each speakers. Your own ears the the best judge on this. Hope this will help you out.

Can't get my blu-ray to play in HD?
-I have a Toshiba HD TV (1080p) and a Blu-Ray player, which I connected using an HDMI cable. The problem being I can't get the Blu-Ray player to play in HD. If I plug in component cables it will run in SD at the 4:3 ratio but that's all I've been able to accomplish. What am I doing wrong? You are mixing things up. The video resolution is NOT screen ratio.
To make it more complex - Recent TV shows shot in HD are exactly 16:9 and will fully fill the screen. But movies for the theater can be in nearly a dozen different ratios which cause black-bars.
Are you using a BluRay with a Movie, seeing black bars and thinking you are not getting HD? Not true.
Do this:
* Disconnect the component cables.
* Hook up the HDMI and make sure the BluRay player is still set to output 1080.
* Rent a recent TV show on BluRay and make sure the back of the box says 16:9 ratio.
* Play the TV show (not the menu) and grab your TV remote. Most televisions allow you to change the screen ratio. Find these settings and turn them OFF so you are not WIDE or ZOOM or STREACHED.
Once you get the perfect image without black bars or screen distortion from zooming in - you know your TV is setup properly.
Now pop in that BluRay disk that is giving you trouble and start the movie. Do you see the black bars? This is normal. This is the exact image ratio you would have seen in the movie theater. If you love movies - you will want this experience and will ignore the black bars.
Still not satisfied? (sigh) Grab the TV remote. Find the "Aspect" settings in the TV menu. Many of the televisions will let you expand the image to fill the screen. The image will be slightly distorted because of this but you get used to it after a while.
Hope this helps.
You don't specify what brand/model of BD player, but your player is probably set for SD output, rather than HD (most players can output at least 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p). Look for the output mode in the menu. You may also want to switch it to 16:9 output aspect ratio while at it.
All blu ray disc players are capable of the 1080P. You just need to set the video setting to auto or 1080P. Those bargain price blu ray disc player are not quite dependable compare to the name brands like Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on blu ray disc players. Hope this will help you out.

Why does my speaker rattle at 50-60Hz and not below that frequency or above it?
-Seems you have a bit of a resonating issue. I'm not too experienced with this, but one of the other answers seems to be.The 50 to 60 HZ is the sub woofer range frequency, most speakers can not handle the low frequency at all. Most full range speakers are designed for the 80HZ and above, those below that will be handle by the subwoofer. You need to get a sub woofer to handle the lower frequency of 80HZ and below. The low frequency are more demanding in power than those of the higher frequencies. Look at your owners manual for the frequency range it can handle. Hope this will help you out.
They shouldn't rattle at all in the audible frequency range, but every speaker has a resonant frequency, and for yours 50-60 Hz appears to be it. It sounds like poor design to me, or maybe something has damaged a speaker cone and that is the problem.
In most case, bbt91945 is correct. In this particularly instance, he is totally wrong.
Bookshelf speakers can easily go down to 60Hz and sometimes below that. A decent pair of floor-standers will go as low as 40HZ with ease, and many will go lower than that (my Jamo D870's are rated to 33Hz).
A good quality subwoofer won't even start working at anything above 50Hz.

How do I find out the wavelength in a projector?
-Generally, about 400nm (red) to about 700nm (violet) -- at least,
that's all you'll ever see, so that's what it's made to produce. You need an interferometer.
It is mostly visible light though.

What is better HDMI Cables or the HD Compostie Cables? Or Same? and why?
-HDMI
HD CABLES
Or Same
Explain Please Thank You !The short answer is you should use HDMI because it is cheaper and easier and less work.
If you know what you are doing and have good equipment, you CAN get the same image quality from HD Rated component cables as you do from HDMI. But there are several issues and you have to know what you are doing. For example:
* Most people do not know how to find component cables rated for HD frequencies. Most component cables were designed for standard-def frequencies.
* Most people do not know you need to calibrate your display for your source and connection type.
* Most people do not know that the better TV's have separate color, brightness, contrast settings PER INPUT. They plug HDMI in one, Component in the other and try doing an A/B check and see a difference - then pick one as 'better' not realizing the TV is set differently for the two inputs.
* When you use Component, the TV has to do an Analog-to-Digital conversion of the signal. This can introduce artifacts. Less expensive models or brands tend to save money on this circuit which worsens the problem. HDMI circuits are cheaper and easier for televisions to process especially on budget models.
* Price: a few years ago a 'good' HD rated component cable was $55 and does not include audio. The same length HDMI cable was $30 and handled both video and audio. So HDMI is about half the price.
For all these reasons - most people should use HDMI whenever possible.
My advice: Go to Amazon and search for "Media Bridge" brand HDMI cables. I wired my daughters system with these last year and found them decently made and priced in the $8-$20 range depending on length.
If you want longer cables or in-wall cables go to www.bluejeanscables.com. They also sell HD rated component cables if you want to go that route.
(Years ago someone was testing Progressive Scan DVD players and they had some expensive component cables and some from BlueJeans. They were using video-analysis equipment to test the players but were shocked to find that the $100+ cables would shift the readings if you touched or moved the cables. But the BlueJeans cables did not have this issue so they re-did all their tests of the players using just the BlueJeans cable.)
go HDMI if you want HD audio and video
HDMI is the only way you get 1080p video transfer from your source
HDMI is the only way to get HD audio transfer from your source at up to 7.1 channels
if you need HDMI cables, go to www.monoprice.com, best prices and service
never buy from a retailer, overpriced big time
HDMI is way better when it comes to Audio/Video Quality. I never heard of HD Compositie Cable. if there is, then it must be the Composite was converted to HDMI? but I would say 100% use HDMI cable is my choice.

Flat HDMI Cables or Round HDMI Cables For Your HT ?
-I prefer round as I find them easier to work with but flat cables can fit in spaces and slots that round do not well in, also they can be used to run under carpet or rugs or behind bass board...so a lot depends on the application and your special needs and preference, and what you find easier to work with but the sound quality should be about they same...both the same id go for flat
both do the same thing. just depends on your taste.

-I purchased a Westinghouse 40-inch 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV from Target last Black Friday. Now, when I turn on the tv, the blue power light turns on, but no sound or picture shows. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance
What do you think is the real fun to enjoy movies at home? LCD OR PROJECTOR ?
-how will you set up ur movie screen and surround sound speaker for true movie entertainment ??Both are nice, though a Projector requires a darker room and little more preparation, projector warmup, closing the blinds, etc. Watching movies with a projector, gets closer to the actual cinema experience, which is nice. LCD on the other hand is more casual, doesn't require a dark room and in some cases, colors and details pop more. If you have a big LCD like 55 inches, the experience can be as enjoyable as a projector, though certainly not as a grand as having a whole wall projected as your screen. I think both are equally enjoyable, it just depends on your preferences and how your home theater is setup.
Having a good surround sound system is just as essential to the experience and will make the visuals have more impact. My suggestion for sound is to build your home theater system piece by piece with quality components. Like buy a good receiver first from a brand like Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer or Yamaha. Then start buying the separate speakers from quality brands like Klipsch, Kef, Polk Audio, etc. when you see them on sale. Try to make sure to match the speakers to the same model lines/brands to keep the sound consistent, so buy matching pairs of LR, Surrounds and make sure you get a really good center channel(center carries about 50% of the sound). Probably most importantly, get a great subwoofer like HSU, SVS, Klipsch, etc. that can crank it for nice low frequency impact.
Hope this helps, good luck.

It may be that you have mixed up the cables at the back so check your connections .It sounds like you may be using RGB connections and have got them in the wrong order.Check tv and recorder ends of the cables.

VGA cable connecting laptop to TV?
-This is probably a stupid question, but hey. I've got a male-male VGA cable, and I'm trying to use it to plug my laptop into my TV. I think it's working alright as the computer seems to recognise the TV as a new display device, but I don't know what channel to set the TV to. I've looked through most of the channels I thought might work, but no luck :/ So what channel would I need? The PC input is the correct one. If you are getting a 'no signal' message on the display that means the vga output on your laptop isn't putting out a signal or is putting out a signal that the tv's vga input cannot recognize. Leave it on the PC input with the 'no signal' and setup your video properties again. What TV do you have (Make/Model?)
If you have a look on the back of the set where you plugged in the cable it should say what mode you need to switch the TV onto.
Most TVs have a "PC" mode but some label all inputs as EXT followed by a number.
its probably not a channel and an 'input' istead. this depends on the year of the tv but most now adays have different inputs instead of changing the channel for that.

Music/Sound System Help Please!?
-Ok so every summer I go down to the beach and juggle my soccer ball with me and some other friends. I always liked the idea of juggling to music in the background because it changes the mood and environment. To cut to the chase I'm looking for a good sound system somewhat like a stereo I guess that I can plug my ipod in at the boardwalk where I juggle. I just want it to be behind me while I juggle like on the sidewalk. I don't want it to be quiet, I want it somewhat loud and I guess it will need to use batteries unless you guys know some other way. Any suggestions? Please put links down to websites with what I'm describing so I can make my choice. Please keep in mind that I don't want it over $120. Thank you

Epson 8100 lamp issue! Need help!!?
-I have an Epson 8100 projector that isn't working right. The lamp has been used for a total of 362 hours as of last nite. I turned it off and went to sleep. When i woke up i went to work and came home hours later. Now it is flashing its lamp light red saying i need a new bulb. But it has a life of 4000 hours. It wont turn on at all, and never showed any warning messages or anything. How do i make it turn back on?!Lamps can fail any time. The 4000 hr rating is an estimate and based on optimum conditions.
Have you had a thunderstorm? Was the lamp cooled properly after each use? Did you avaoid rapid on/off cycles? Do you use a UPS/surge protector?
See the article at the 1st link for proper lamp care practices. That said, as stated earlier, lamps can fail any time.
It may be something else too. See the troubleshooting guide at the 2nd link.

What projector should I get to show videos at church?
-It needs to work good in day light, have bright color, and still work ok when its far away from the screen. It has to last a while but it has to be around $600.No such beast. No projector can stand up to full daylight, specially an entry level unit, which is all your budget allows for. That is why they lower the lights in movie theaters. Your other difficult issue here has to do with the distance to the screen. If it has to be more than 16'-18' from the screen, then you will need a projector with a long lens. A typical long lens can cost well over $1,000.00 by itself. If you can lower the lights & can keep the projection distance short, then you should buy as much Epson projector as you can afford.
Projectors are designed for a dark room, it would not be ideal for a church at all. At the budget you have you are not going to find find. You would need a commercial type projector for that and the cost would be in the thousands of dollars. I use a projector to watch blu ray disc movies only. Pick up a copy of Home Theater Magazine May issue, it list about every projector in the market. Hope this will help you out.

Help with Xbox and surround sound?
-Hey guys. I'm having some trouble with my Xbox 360 and hooking up some sound.
The setup:
Upstairs I have my Xbox hooked up to a little TV. Nothing special.
Downstairs, there is a bigger TV with the DVD player hooked up to it. The DVD player (Sony) has 'receiver' written on the back and delivers 5.1 surround sound when I'm watching DVDs. On this DVD player, there is unfortunately no optical in port. Each speaker plugs in separately at the back. I can move the AV cables from the Video 1 and Video 2 ports on the TV.
So, for the time being, I'm going to set up my a monitor I'm about to buy (Acer P243W) up downstairs with the HDMI cable. Then, I'll use the AV cable from the Xbox and plug it into the DVD player at the back (there is a red and a white port there). This will give me normal stereo sound through the surround sound - yes?
That's fine for now. But at a later stage I have to take the Xbox and monitor back upstairs, that's why I've been looking for speakers. The monitor doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, strangely enough, so I can't use normal computer speakers. This is the real problem. Do you think I should just buy one of these micro DVD systems?
http://www.game.co.za/RapidCat/game/rsa/pages/page-4.jpg
Maybe that Sinotec one for R599 or the one for R799? Then, would it be possible to have that HiFi and the Xbox set up to the speakers?
I do have another DVD player (Sansui) and this one does have an optical port. But, it doesn't have the slots for the surround sound, like on the Sony - it only has an optical in, the normal red white and yellow ports, and then blue, green etc. ports (I don't know what they're for) as well as the video port.
What do you guys think is my best option?
Should I buy a mini hifi and hook it up to the Sansui DVD player (how?) and then plug the optical cable into the DVD player (from the Xbox)
Any advice very much appreciated.

Where do I place my center channel speaker?
-I am forced to have my 6 speakers (2 front wide, and 4 surround) near the top of the wall but all are pointed at my seating area. I am able to have my center channel anywhere from right above my TV or up level with all of my speakers. Should the center be placed as low as possible? Or as level as possible with the other speakers? The center channel is being placed on a flat shelf so I will not be able to level it at all. Center channel speaker is the Polk Audio CS2 and my surround speakers are Acoustech PL-66's.Since the purpose of the centre-channel speaker is to reproduce the dialogue, it should be placed as close to the screen as possible. Directly above or below the screen is ideal.
What kind of cable only has a white and yellow end?
-I have a cable that on one end has a yellow and white audio and video end, and the other end is like the end of headphones/earbuds jack thing. It doesn't have a red end though.
I just want to know what it's called, what it's use is, and how to use it. Thanks! This sounds like a cable that came with a digital camera, allowing you to view the camera's pictures and videos on a TV. The small end goes into the camera, the other ends plug into a TV. There is no red end for the TV because the sound that most cameras record is mono, not stereo.
I wouldn't try plugging this into just any camera though - it probably was made for a specific camera.

How do I connect my netbook to my tv(with and without cables)so that a video on my netbook will show on my tv?
-I have a plasma Mitsubishi TV(very big and bulky) with all the jacks for HDMI, S-Video, ect. on the back of it. I just have the basic a/v cables.
My question is, how do I connect my ASUS Eee PC Netbook(miniature laptop) to my TV so that if I were to watch a YouTube video or a movie, on my netbook, the picture would show up on my TV?
I just need to know what I would need to buy to do it wireless, if possible, and if not what cables/connectors do I need. If someone could help me out with this soon that would be great. Thanks.

How to connect xbox360 with my tv and surround sound system?
-I don't want to use any low quality options like RCA cables. I want to connect all three with my best option to get the best quality available. My tv has an audio (in), and 2 hdmi. The receiver for the surround sound has 1 hdmi and a digital audio (in). The xbox 360 is one of the newer ones so it has an hdmi as well. I can't figure out how to do this since the tv and receiver both have an audio (in) which is rather annoying. How can I hook up all three things without using traditional RCA cables (red, white, yellow) which don't produce top notch quality. Thanks in advance
I need to buy a new DVD player.?

What Makes For the Good HDMI Cables ?
-Well surprisingly even the experts don't have "All" the answers what makes the difference in audio or video cables.
There is allot to designing good cables and you can ask 100 designers and you'll get 100 different answers, each manufacture has there own philosophy what is important.
First thing is:
The audio or video system must be of reasonably good quality in order to show you the differences in cables.
The system must be properly setup and calibrated in order to show you the differences.
And cables just being more expensive doesn't guarantee you better video or audio quality.
One thing is for sure, the only place to purchase the better cables is from your local independent high end audio video store as they carry the better brands of equipment and cables. The chain stores do not carry better cables worth the price difference.
You can also read reviews from reputable magazines like Perfect Vision, Stereophile, Widescreen Review.
Kevin
40 years high end audio video specialistYour question is oddly phrased. Are you asking how to tell if a HDMI cable is well made or are you asking for the brand-names of some good HDMI cables?
I am going to assume you want some suggestions.
For short runs (under 10 ft) and not burying the cable in a wall I like the "Media Bridge" brand of cable which you can get from Amazon for $8-$20 depending on the length.
A lot of people like www.monoprice.com for ultra-cheep asia-made cables. I have used them and they do work, but I suspect the cables are very generic and one month to another the cables can change quality or source.
For longer runs or in-wall use I like shopping at www.bluejeanscables.com. My 13 ft cable ran about $38 a few years ago and the prices have dropped. These are very thick and strong cables so they can be pulled through a wall without damage, but wont work well for short interconnections.
Hope this helps.

How hard would it be to find these cables working at the swampmeet?

How can I connect my 5.1 speakers to my lcd tv or 360 elite?
-My speakers have a 5.1ch or aux input. I've heard it cannot b connected to tv (not with surround sound anyway) but was wondering what cables I would need to connect it through my 360 elite. It would seem that your speakers are powered being they have a aux input ? If that is the case then you can come off the left and right line output into the speakers. If they are not powered then here is your other option.
Well certainly your best bet is to hook it up through a receiver or integrated amplifier so you can power them properly, but if you just want stereo then here is your options. If the TV has speaker outputs you can hook the left and right main speakers to the left and right outputs of the speaker outputs, if it has them. The 360 elite i think is a monitor only TV has no tuner or audio inputs. If ether of them do you do however have to make sure the amplifier in the TV can power these speakers properly. Most TV's do not have high current amplifiers built in so you must use speakers that are both reasonably efficient and have a stable impedance around 8ohms.
Hope that helps you.

Can I route a 3d player through a home theat0r system?
-I own an lg blu ray home theatre system (hb905pa), but have recently aquired a 3d tv, and am looking for a 3d player. What I want to know is, if I buy a 3d blu ray player, and attach it the the theatre system using the hdmi cable, will it still work as 3d? I assume so, but I don't know if routing it through a non-3d device would prevent it from working. Here is how you would connect the system. Connect the 3D blu ray disc player directly to the tv using 1.4 HDMI cable and then connecting an optical cable from the tv and the other end to the home theater in a box. This of course, providing that your home theater has an optical audio input. Some home theater in a box are not flexible for any audio input at all. You also connect the home theater to the tv using what id provided for output, normally HDMI cable. When you watch 3D it will send an audio signal to the home theater, which you will also turn on. Hope this will help you out.
It should work, your home theater system is for sound not picture. As long as it's a 3D blu ray then you should be good. Your attaching it to your theater system to listen to it thru surround.

6 & 8 ohm speakers will this work?
-Looking at a Jamo 5.1 speakers specs. show front and rear speakers 6 ohms center speaker 8 ohms. I have a Yamaha RX V 465 receiver. Will these speakers work with this receiver?Open up the owners manual and look at the page for setting up speakers. The minimum nominal impedance requirement should be there. Yamaha has dumbed down the web page that lists the specifications of their receivers so there is no indication of stuff that the average person doesn't understand such as distortion, frequency response and speaker impedance. Also, I have no idea what Confucious is talking about. You didn't say anything about bridging channels so you can ignore what he says abut that. Maybe he had "a vertation."
Most receivers can handle 4 to 8 OHM load for speakers. Jamo is a pretty good speaker system and your receiver should have no problem powering the speakers. Hope this will help you out.

How many 3D broadcasts have there been?
-Directv has a 3D chanel, and 3D PPVI have not seen any 3D broadcast at all. Keep in mind to get 3D you need the following: 3D tv, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movies and 3D glasses. At this time there are only about 40 titles in blu ray and they are mainly animated movies. Beside that the price of 3D is still very high and the consumer have not taken the 3D technology at heat at this time. Hope this will help you out.
What is a good speaker setup for a TV for under $200?
-I am about to purchase a TV that is notorious for having horrible sound output, so I need to get speakers to go along with it. I have done my research but cannot find any good deals. Most of the sources say that it is more worth it to get a decent stereo setup than a cheap 5.1 system... is that true? Could you please provide me with links if you know of any current good deals for either stereo or 5.1 dolby digital speakers?
Also, please give me any tips that you think I should consider since this will be my first tv and speaker purchase ever.Keep in mind that most tv today only have an optical audio output, which has to be connected to a receiver or a home theater in a box that has an optical audio input. This is a digital signal that can carry a multi channel sound which has to be decoded by a Dolby Digital decoder. So you just can't buy a set of speakers and expect to connect it to a tv. If your tv provides a head phone jack you can connect a computer speaker to it, but then again those speakers are limited in power to around 14 watts max. Home theater in a box are not flexible for upgrade or are they very dependable. If a stereo receiver has an optical audio input, then you can use it and just add a set of speakers to it. My recommendation would be an Onkyo HT-S3300, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers for under $400. You can add a blu ray disc player to it like a Panasonic blu ray disc player model BD-65 and other game console to it also. Hope this will help you out.
Check out the Dayton B652 speakers and a stereo amp by Sherwood...most HDTV's only have optical out though and you would need and AV receiver to get that feature

Will these RCA Y-splitters still work for what I need?
-Yesterday, I got three RCA splitters with the intention of using it to record console play, with the female side plugged into a console and the two male sides plugged into a television and capture card. I didn't have much time so as soon as I saw RCA splitters, I picked them up and bought them. Just today, I noticed that instead of being Female-Male-Male splitters, they're Male-Female-Female. I'm not concerned about not having a second male end because I have extension cables with two male ends but I don't know if the splitters themselves would work as I originally wanted.Yes, they will work fine as long as you are going from one output to two inputs. The gender does not matter.
How can I update my Phillips blu ray player?
-I've bought 2012 on Blu Ray twice as I thought the first one was faulty but I'm having the same issue with the new one. How do I update my blu ray player to play this disc? You can call or email the manufacturer on how to update the firmware of your player. Phillips is a bargain price blu ray disc player and thus it is not as reliable as those made by Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. I own a first generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic and have played over 300 blu ray disc movies and have had no problems. It is also 4 years old. Panasonic has had a blu ray disc player recommended every year by Home Theater Magazine. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on players. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.
Witch Pa System is better?
-Hi im looking for the best pa out of these two and the one thats better at recording music.http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Kustom-Profile-100-Portable-PA-System-2X6-100wt?sku=486077 OR http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Phonic-Powerpod-410S710-PA-System?sku=630485 and im in a metalcore band and im lead vocals www.facebook.com/ruinsofcitium1Ittu,
I work at Musician's Friend. The previous comment is correct; the Kustom and Phonic PA systems will not be loud enough to compete with the sounds generated by the drums or guitars. If you are just looking to amplify your vocals, you could buy a couple Harbinger APS15 PA Speakers (http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pro鈥?/a> and daisy chain them. We also have them at $50 off right now, so it's a great bargain.
If this won't work for you, give us a call or shoot us an email. We'll be happy to look into other alternatives to meet your needs.
You can send an e-mail to us by filling out the form found here: http://mf.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/mf.cfg/ph鈥?/a>

What is the best receiver for Bose Acoustimass 10 IV?
-I just bought a Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV surround system. I'd like your help to pick the best possible receiver with a $300 budget.
Here's the one I'm looking into,
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Denon+-+550W+5.1-Ch.+3D+Pass+Through+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver/2127161.p?id=1218310410062&skuId=2127161
Thanks in advance!
-A3With Bose speakers it won't matter what receiver you use ... you still won't get great sound. (Bose are overpriced mediocre speakers aimed at gullible shoppers ... you can do much better for the same $$) That said, Denon is a good brand, as is Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer .... the models from each company in the same price range will be comparable, so pick on the basis of warranty, features, aesthetics and price.
Pioneer and Onkyo are the top entry level receiver in the market today. It would be no problem on which receiver you get. The Bose speakers are not as good as they say they are. They are overpriced and they don't last long. There are many other speakers out in the market that will out shine the Bose speakers for less money. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on speakers. You will not see any Bose speakers being recommended at any price. Hope this will help you out.
Sorry for your purchase, however Bose speakers deserve a lower priced receiver anyways, so your Denon choice is fine. The only issue you have is what you over paid for your Blows.
As they say ... "No highs, no lows, then it must be Bose"
Here's the one I'm looking into,

My Optoma EP739 doesn't even turn on or have any lights showing on the top panel LED. It has power going to it?
-My Optoma EP739 doesn't even turn on or have any lights showing on the top panel LED. It has power going to it but it seems that there might be a short or something else that is going on that I don't know how to troubleshoot. Any Suggestions? This unit was just working, but after we put the case back on it doesn't power up, and the LED's on the top panel don't turn on anymore. Help!Maybe the bulb is blown?
I'm returning my Bose, what do you guys think about the Onkyo HT-S9300THX Integrated System ?
-I recently bought a Bose Acoustimass 10 IV, but after looking into it more it seems that Bose is not nearly what I thought it was. I'm returning it.
After looking at many different sources I found this bad boy, what do you guys think?
(I have a room that is about 20' by 15' begging for good quality sound)
Onkyo HT-S9300THX Integrated SystemTrust me, ANYTHING is better than BOSE. BOSE is nothing but a "Hyundai with a Cadillac price." I know. I had a BOSE sound system before at home and in the vehicle.
Onkyo is amazing for the price range you're getting it. That sound system that you're trying to get is definitely a WIN WIN! And since it's THX certified, you know it's going to sound amazing!
Did you ever notice that BOSE NEVER won a THX certification?
Just read the reviews for the system you're trying to get:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S9300THX-鈥?/a>
Another brand you should consider is an Infinity sound system. Those things also blow my mind!
It is a nice system and better than those home theater in a box. The speakers are not quite as good. May I recommend an Onkyo receiver say a 608 and a set of Klipsch speakers. Klipsch comes only with a 5.o or 5.1 satellite speakers. Or you can look at a JBL, Infinity, Definitive Technology and Polk Audio. Go online to Home Theater and read the reviews on receivers and speakers. I use an Onkyo receiver 5007 and a Pioneer Elite with Energy speakers and Klipsch quintet, along with Infinity flat speakers that are from the 90's with another Elite receiver. While my home theater are Martin Logan, Krell processor and Cinapro power amps. All was purchase with the review from Home theater magazine. Hope this will help you out.
A really good receiver with quality speakers and powered subwoofer, this is a steal. HDMI switching and great upconversion for standard material. You'll have it around for the next 15-20 years, or until they create 30.5 speaker surround sound. It's being replaced by a newer model soon so take advantage of the lowered price before it gets discontinued. Bose is overrated. It's like a Land Rover, pretty, expensive and has the worst reliability but has the most hardcore followers. I don't get it.

A good BUDGET 5.1 or 7.1 sound system for a PC?
-I originally was going to buy the Corsair SP2500's but they're 2.1 and I REALLY want a 360 sound experience when playing a game like Battlefield 3 or Skyrim. Now.. i know that a sound system like Logitech Z5500 is awesome BUT i really don't think I'll need that because I'm moving my PC from the living room to my bedroom which is like 3mitres by 3mitres area. So how powerful should the sound system need to be?? I will only listen to it in the room and not in the shower downstairs.
-Also.. I listen to Dubstep and DnB a lot so it would be nice to have a good clear sound. I'm currently just using a headset all time which is Turtle beach X11's and i like them, I'll just use them at night once i get the sound system.
So.. in summary.. I want to hear bullets and explosions behind me as well as dragons shouting from the proper angle as they fly over me( skyrim lol) and a good music experience for Dubstep and DnB ALL IN A 3mx3m room. will a 70W 5.1 system do it for me?
how about one of these 3:

How did my dvd player do this?
-years ago i was changing my disc and my player picked up the radio chatter from the fire engine passing my road it never did it again though. That should be impossible because of the following reasons:
Your DVD player does not have a radio antenna.
Your DVD player does not have a radio decoder or frequency selector.
Your DVD players sole purpose is to convert a bunch of 1's and 0's on a plastic disc into sound and vision.
Its FAR more likely that your TV picked up this signal than the DVD player as sometimes TVs do give themselves cross channel interference. And its more likely that the analogue receiver of the TV is what picked up this signal.
Its a freak occurance that the Fire engine was passing at the same time your DVD player was idle and that the radio signal in use happened to be of a frequency that your TV could directly display, as well as broadcasting at the correct time.
Changing the radio frequency, the time of the radio transmission, the road used, or the AVI channel the TV was using at the time can all affect whether or not this happens again.
Chances are this exact set of criteria for this to happen again is incredibly unlikely to happen again.it sounds more like your t.v picked it up and not your dvd

I just started using netflix on my new blu-ray player.?
-How do I fix this problem? I started a movie, got as far as the opening credits and stopped. Would not restart. Tried again the next night, same thing. Tried a different movie, same thing. Impossible to contact Netflix to refer the problem. Anyone? Anything?
Can I set an equalizer for a subwoofer?
-I have an 18 inch SoundTech subwoofer which I don't believe has a low crossover built in but there is some kind of board with a transformer and two capacitors.
That isn't really related but Im taking my subwoofer to school tomorrow and they have no crossover, instead I was going to use a channel on their dual 31 band graphical equalizer as a crossover, but which ones do I set for max bass.

Problem playing netflix movie thru my new blu-ray player - need reply?
-I connected to netflix thru my blu-ray player, picked a movie to download, the download bar showed the progress of the download... (which means the blu-ray is recognized), the movie STARTS playing while the download progress bar is still showing. But after a few minutes, the bar indicating loading progress stops moving and I get this message: "We're unable to connect you to Netflix"(after already starting to play the movie). "Please try again or visit www.netflix /TVhelp for guidance." And then the whole thing stops and no amount of coaxing gets it to restart. I've reported this problem to netflix. Automated answer says they have received the comment and will investigate. So far, no answer from them (probably never will be). Netflix/TVHelp just shows you need a device, a TV, pick a movie and start watching instantly. (Thanks for nothing)
To my knowlegde I don't have a bit torrent program on anything I own (since I never installed one). I just went onto netflix using my Imac and tried to play the same movies that started to play thru my blu-ray player for viewing on my TV. Netflix downloaded a 2 hour movie instantly onto my Imac, and I was able to view thru my Imac. I have to assume a bit torrent program isn't the problem. It seems to be between netflix, my blu-ray and the TV. Although they all work since it does start to download the movie but then quits after a few minutes of playing it. Now... any more suggestions?

Can I use a splitter for 2 sub woofers / receivers?
-I'm using this 1200 w divinci sub woofer / receiver through the headphone jack because it's connected to my computer, I have 2 of these sub woofers though, So I was wondering if I used a headphone splitter if I can use 2 sub woofers at once ? Or would the sound be low quality / distorted?
My blu-ray player isn't playing dvd's?
-when i plug in my blu-ray player and put a dvd in the tv says 'no signal' (both are samsung) but the dvd player menu appears at beggining, this also happens with my xbox 360 through hdmi, it works fine but when i go to watch a dvd is says 'no hdcp link could be found'? it isn't my hdmi cable because i bought a new one today and still no luck :( any help would be great.
thanks.
thanks.
Why does my receiver click when I turn it on?
-Why does my receiver make a click sound when I turn it on?It is the power on relay. Many receivers have a relay that actually makes the power connection to the AC voltage instead of a switch. The relay can also delay the speaker connection for a split second so that there is no "thump" heard in your speakers.
The click is normal.Absolutely normal... like what the other answer says! =D

Is it DVD or Blu-ray?
-I ordered a dvd from ebay the other day and when I got it I looked on the disc and it said Disney blu-ray I don't have a DVD player so I use my PC which doesn't have a blu-ray drive but it still played it I looked at the size of the CD and it said 7.85 GB which is the size of a DVD9, I was under the impression that a blu-ray disc was between 25 and 50 gigs. and if its a DVD9 why doesn't it say it on the disc? and whatever it is will it play on a regular dvd player? cause I bought it for someone elseFirst off, no, blu-ray discs are not blue on the back... The "blu" refers to the laser (which is blue, instead of red)
Considering the PC was able to read the disc at all tells me it's a DVD. Otherwise your computer wouldn't be able to even give you the capacity numbers.
However some earlier Disney releases used to put blu-ray and DVD on a single disc. This way you only had 1 disc but it would work on both types of players. The downside is that this took space away from the disc's capacity as a blu-ray disc. So maybe that's what you have.Sometimes Disney sells movies in twin-packs where you get a DVD and a Blu-Ray of the same movie.
Anyway, if it's DVD it will have the official DVD logo on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video
And if it's Blu-Ray it will have the official Blu-Ray logo on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray
If it has both logos, then it should work for either one... and even though DVD players won't play Blu-Ray discs, Blu-Ray players will play DVD discs.
is it gold on the back?
several companies makes gold dvd-r's
to me, it sounds like a DVD-R with a blu-ray label printed onto the disc
is it blue on the back? if so, you've got a bluray.

I need a smartass on speakers!?
-how would i set up the polk audio psw10 subwoofer to play with the logitech z2300? I want it SIMPLE!!! i was thinking of getting a 3.5mm cord splitter (which would be from an ipod touch) and plug the logitech in one side and the polk in the other but how would i set up a 3.5mm cord to go to the polk subwoofer?? would i just convert the 3.5mm into two rca cords then plug them into the back of the speaker or would i have to do somtin with the imputs and/or outputs??? thanks!!!You're going to need some sort of crossover in order to direct the low frequency signal away from the logitech midrange speakers. Plus, it might not work well as the midrange speakers on the logitech system probably isn't designed to play all the way down to 80hz (the highest frequency your PSW10 is going to reproduce up to). This way you're going to get a gap at around the 80hz range.
You will never get good returns if you are asking for "Smartasses"
Also, I think I answered this before...
Why mix a high quality sub (Polk) with a cheap system (Logitech)?
@ Maniac... relatively speaking, High quality. =D That sub's friends will be very disappointed that it is hanging with Logitech.

Connecting multiple systems (TV/Media Player/Set Top Box etc) to a home theater -?
-I have a Philips Home Theater (HTS3520) with 5.1 speaker system. It has only one Audio in jack (white & red). My problem is that I have 1) LED TV (with only digital audio out (optical) 2) Two set top boxes (Airtel & Hathway) 3) O!Play Digital Media Player. I need to connect audio out from all the above 3 systems to my home theater. I wish to hear all programs played on my TV using the STBs or Media Player, through my home theater. Please suggest way out for my problem. What I may need is an audio hub like thing to connect the audio outs from TV, STBs & Media Player and connect the hub to my home theater. Look forward for some help. thanks.I try to tell people every chance I get that Home Theater in a Box systems are rubbish, partly because of what you are running into. And that is lack of connections.
When you need is a surround sound receiver. A true receiver will allow you to connect all of your source devices (cable boxes and other media players) to independent inputs. You can then route your video signal from the receiver to your TV. This is how a quality surround sound system and entertainment system is connected.
The problem is that people who want to create an entertainment system usually blow their wad on an expensive TV and have little left for everything else they need. But a good TV with crappy components connected to it just means that you will have a nice TV producing a crappy image.
Check into purchasing a true surround sound receiver. A decent one will start at about $300.I'm nor sure if thisll work for your whole home theater system, but if you buy and HDMI cable you don't need all the wires. but make sure all your systems have the right port, it looks like a computer port.
Home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to it and it has only a 2 channel input of the left and right. Keep in mind that you will only hear stereo sound if you are able to connect it to the home theater you have. What you need is a separate receiver that has multiple input for you to connect your other equipment. Your tv has an optical audio output, which is a digital signal that has to be decoded by a receiver or a home theater in a box that has optical audio input. Your home theater in a box will not work at all on what you are trying to do. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

Also, which one would be the best? They are theaters in a box. U get it all. But lower grade of prod in some areas. I would recommend buying all seperate. May cost a few bucks more, buy way better quality. I take alot of pride in my home sound. If I were u just go 7.1 thats the future, be ready for it.

Can I connect home cinema system to pc?
-I have a sony home cinema system which consists of 4 surround speakers, 1 subwoofer and a smaller "central" speaker. which are all connected to the main box which is the dvd/cd player (sorry for my lack of technological terminology). This system is connected to the tv by an hdmi cable. Is it possible to connect this system to my laptop? Perhaps this would require some kind of compatability program?I see what you are trying to do here, it can be done but its not easy or cheap. You will need a new amp, why do you need a amp because it converts the signal comming from your pc via a 3.5mm headphone jack and convert it into signal compatible with your home cinema system. Alternatively you could add a dedicated sound card with audio out, so you can join the pc output to your sytem.
If i was in your situation, i would go for the sound card option, its much cheaper and prices for sound card are not very expensive. I hope this helped.
My pc is connected to my home cinema. I used a fibre optic cable from my pc to the home cinema. If your laptop does not have this type of connection. Check to see if your home cinema has analogue audio inputs. These will be red and white phono sockets. If it has these, then you can get a lead from headphone jack to phono. Then you can connect that way.
Does your laptop have an HDMI output?

What will be the problem if speakers are not working?
-first check the wires tobe sure they are connected properly. Then check to see if you are on the right receiver channel and check for the mute feature. If that does not work try hooking the speakers to another device. Could be a fried receiver.this could be caused by a wide range of problems broken cable, broken input and could even be that the contact has come loose inside the speaker and needs re soldering (unlikely) the amp which i located inside the subwoofer could have blown due to many problems. The fuse for the plug or the fuse located inside the sub may have gone due to over volt or just vibrations or wear and tear hope these suggestions help if the speakers still have warranty send them back for repair or replacement
if they're home theatre speakers (like the catagory in which your question was asked) then its a faulty connection or a broken component in your speakers
The speakers are not working is the problem

Dvd player has no sound?!?
-al of a sudden my dvds have no sound... i cant figure out whats up?Make sure that the cable from the dvd player to the receiver are properly secured to the port. DVD players only sends a signal to a tv or receiver and then the tv or receiver process the signal to create sound. Hope this will help you out.

RCA AV Splitters? Meaning?

Look at this ebay ad

The splitters are yellow, but I'm wondering if I can plug a different colored wire in like the red or white one? or is it just the yellow one? Thanks.

What is the little circle located to the right of the ear-speaker on the HTC Inspire?
-So on the front of the HTC Inspire, on the right hand side of the speaker that you put up to your ear when on the phone talking, there's a circle that looks like it should be the blinker for when you have text messages and such, but it's not. My friend told me it was the frontal camera, which later I found out it wasn't (unfortunately). So, now I'm just so curious to know what it is? Is it there with no purpose, or what?!

How to set up Car Subwoofer Box in house?
-I just bought these dual GR Gravity 900w Subwoofers in a box. I want to set them in my house to play off my iPod or Laptop (whatever is loudest). I am a noob at speakers of this caliber and was wondering what I would need to go about setting this up in my house to reach their full potential.
Here's 3 pictures to show the inputs and everything you need.
FRONT: http://tinypic.com/r/2i1dp5j/7
LEFT: http://tinypic.com/r/2moa6oj/7
RIGHT: http://tinypic.com/r/33ayv51/7I would leave those in your car. Car subs aren't the same as home subs, the biggest difference being that car subs require a DC power supply (which is what car alternators/batteries produce). Before even attempting this, you should find an AC-to-DC power adapter that can supply 900W from a wall outlet And it better be 900W total not each, because 1800W is about the most power wall outlets can usually supply, and drawing that much power might be a little dangerous.
If you can find one and nothing starts smoking, just connect it to a receiver with a red-white RCA cable or something, and play away!

Bluray only plays in 576p?
-I have a Soniq bluray player hooked up to a 32inch Panasonic Viera TV.
The TV only does 1080i so I know it will down res when I play bluray but why doen't it scale down to 720p.
I'm using a good quality HDMI cable and have changed the settings on the bluray player itself but the TV has no manual controls for resolution.
Is there any way to get around this problem?

I would like to know about LG Cinema 3D.?
-My children and I went to bestbuy yesterday and watched LG CINEMA 3D demo. It was really awesome. Now, my kids won鈥檛 stop begging to get one. Could anyone tell me about its advantages compared with other brands? Thanks.I disagree with Robert. I don't think that's the way 3D works. Especially the one that you saw makes 3D images pretty much the same way when we see objects. It doesn't make our eyes crossed. We get 3D images in the brain by each eye seeing different image from slightly different angle.
To answer to Mathew's question.. as far as I know, the LG CINEMA 3D鈥檚 main advantages are that their TVs are certified Flicker Free and Crosstalk Free because of its passive 3D glasses whose lenses receive both left and right images at the same time from the TV, not one image at a time by flickering. Due to this feature you won鈥檛 get any headache and dizziness. These 3D glasses are also lightweight and battery free. I think it鈥檚 better and more comfortable 3D TV for kids.

What is the differance between analog signal and digital in audio and video?
-I will compare and contrast Analog and Digital for you... my 9th grade English teacher would be happy! lol
Analog is simply an electrical signal
Digital consists of 1's and 0's
Digital does not need to be shielded, as it either works or it doesn't... no need to worry about interference.
Analog needs to be shielded, as it is susceptible to interference that can distort the audio/video signal.
Analog comes over copper braided wires from Amplifiers to Speakers...
Digital comes over (Most times) a fiber optic cable or HDMI cable from a DVD player or game system to the amplifier
Passive speakers require an analog cable to connect them to an amp as an analog cable also carries the power necessary to run the speakers
Powered speakers have amps built in; therefore, powered speakers may be run with digital connections to the source
Analog is more common to audio... because... Analog carries both power and signal, which is required when running large, passive, speaker systems
Digital is more common to video... because... Digital is said to carry a "Perfect" signal, which is preferred when it comes to high definition TVs
Hope this helps

Will these speakers be able to connect to this tv?

Purchasing speaker...?
-I want to buy FD Company speaker & play with mobile. Pls help is this right step ...How much are you willing to pay for these speakers? Also what kind of speakers are you looking for? Speaker dock? Bookshelf speakers? Surround sround speakers?
And @ answer above me: Creative speakers are NOT the best. In fact they are pretty horrible.

Can i attach my car music system which have i big woofer and 2 modeum speeker into my home theater it will wor?
-Work or not.It can be done with some mods limited output... and dubious results and one or more 120v ac to 12 v DCn transformer...
Yes,you can. Use an 220/110 Volts to 12 volts DC adapter. Go through the Car player's manual for proper D.C amps of the 12 volts D.C adpater. Use matching speakers. Take utmost care while wiring.
This kind of question comes up a lot. It's really more problematic that it's worth, the results are hit and miss with mediocre sound at best. Take a look at this FAQ page, question #3:

Yes u can .with the help of Battery Eleminator (12 V)

How to change volume on sub woofer missing its control speaker?
-So, I have a sub woofer that IS NOT broken or blown, but when I plug in my music player into it, I BARELY hear it when the player is on max volume. I think this is because it was a 3 piece set (2.1) with the volume and control knob on one of the speakers that went with it (I don't have to other two speakers, just sub). So, how can I get the volume adjusted to a hearable level? It was pretty cheap and I can open it up if necessary.
Where can i buy a 120V AC to 12V DC power adapter?
-i want to buy these to put behind my tv but it ways i need a special adapter, where can i buy one for under 10$?
Thanks

What bookshelf speakers would be adequate for a 10x10 room and no more than $300 a pair?
-A lot depends on what type of music you listen to; how loud you listen and what your other equipment is....but just generally speaking...I would look at bookshelf speakers from Jamo; Boston Acoustics; Polk Audio...
Home theater system question...please help?
-Okay...I am in the market to buy a new TV and a home theater system. Went to brands mart and the kid showed me some stuff and turns out he wasnt giving bad advice...I just wanted to double check on a few things before I fully commit and thought my Y! Answers crew might help out as always...my questions are:
1. If I will be mostly watching blu-rays and playing xbox...do I really need to have a receiver that does the 1080p up-conversion?
2. what is your take on a 5.1 vs 7.2 channel receiver? I am looking at the Bose 5.1 Accoustimass System, so I think 7.2 would be unnecessary (even though upgrading later would be a good option to have)
3. I am looking at Onkyo receivers, I've heard some good stuff about them, and the two choices are:
a) TX-NR609
b) TX-NR509
***the biggest difference is that one is 5.1 and the other 7.2, the 609 is THX certified (im not sure what that really does for me)...and also the 609 has the upconvert option...but the price is just about twice as much of the 609.
This will most likely be used in my bedroom, and later to be used in a living room...so I do not need to have the top of the line...somewhere in the middle is fine with me...highly doubt I will be upgrading and adding speakers here and there but im not opposed to it...just trying to save money...if you have recommendations on speakers or receivers (I am willing to blow about $1500 on the system, and obviously if I can be around the $1000 mark for a really nice set up...ID LOVE YOU FOR SUGGESTING IT :D)
Thanks for your help!I would recommend a Denon Receiver like the avr 591 OR avr 791 over the Onkyo 509 although the 609 seems to be OK...Onkyo has been cutting corners in there entry level line receivers for some reason and so I would not recommend the NR 509 seems that the higher up you go in there line the better job they do and the less likely a chance you will get burned...its not because its 7.2 but just better amps and for many other reasons also..another good choice would be the Pioneer VSX 521 just a better receiver in that price range.
Speakers take a look at Boston Acoustic Polk Audio and Jamo before the Bose; Bose are just over priced for what you get....

Blu ray player vs DVD?
-Guys I bought a new 60" plasma tv. I hooked it up to my DVD player.don't see any difference in resolution from other hd cable channels. Shoul I really get a blu ray player? Does it really make a difference. I know DVD is 480i, but still looks pretty good resolution to me on tv.if your DVD player is connected via HDMI then it may be up converting the image...
if the image is good enough for you then i do not see a reason to buy a blu-ray player...
i passed on the whole bluray fad anyhow.. as i feel that it is just the movie industries last attempt to try to sell you a physical media - i get all of my content now mostly from on demand from my cable company, or streaming from the internet from providers such as netflix or hulu i do not see the need to buy a new player just for the sake of holding a disc in my hand...
If you spent money on an 1080 HDTV and you do not have a Blu Ray player, then you just wasted a few hundred dollars. Blu Ray is pretty much the only way to get 1080 HD. Many people think their HD cable boxes provide 1080, but currently no network broadcasts in anything higher than 720.
Not only does Blu Ray have more than double the pixels, but it also has far superior sound. So if you happen to have a surround sound system, you will be able to tell a difference.
If however, you are one of those people who have a massive TV and are only using the crappy 2" built-in speakers, then you are missing out on a LOT.

Bookshelf speakers with 6.5 inch woofer that sound good and are affordable?($300 or less)?
-I listen to only rock music at medium high volumes. Powering these is a JVC 5.1 AV receiver rated @ 100 watts per channel. These don't have 6.5 inch woofers... but they're far superior to 99% of what's out there in your price range...

Very high quality speakers...
I would also recommend speakers from JBL, Whaferdale, Bowers and Wilkens, and Boston, in your price range.
Trust me, don't concern yourself with driver size... it doesn't mean much in the world of quality audio. It merely means it goes a little deeper... it doesn't mean the sound is better.
The AudioEngine's I recommended would be your best bet. They're made in the USA, and they're some of the best you can get for under $300... you can't get much better than that without breaking your budget.
BTW... the speaker pictured in my picture is one of my AudioEngine A2s... the P4s smaller siblings. They only have 2.5 inch woofers, and they rock out better than pretty much anything else in the $300 or less range (Except for the P4s). I will never sell them... ever. They're simply outstanding for the price.
Good luck
