Passive Speakers VS Active Speakers for Digital DJ'ing?

-Me and a friend are try to get equipment to start DJing. We plan on getting a laptop (any good suggestions besides MAC). We know we need Mics, Headphones, and possibly a mixer(do we need that) and we know we need speakers. Do we want to get Passive or Active. We figure were just gonna start out a parties and school dances locally and possible move up some day but for now what is the best to get. Whats the best at a reasonably price(brands) and is there anything else we need that i missed???? Thanks alot! any answers will be helpfull!I don't know.. Active speakers have amplifiers built into them and passive speakers you will need a amplifier...

I don't know much on active speakers so i will have to say passive with a nice amplifier/receiver

For brands i will say peavy, cerwin vega, behringer, crown, technics.. just stay away from cheap brands and you will be all set!
Definitely get a mac. If your serious about DJing then you should get a mixer as well. I know numark just released their NS6 which means that you could probably find people selling the NS7 for pretty cheap. From my experience and if you are serious about DJing you gotta go active. all pros have active. In terms of speakers I would check out brands like Alto Pro or Alesis. Also I am launching a group for Djs, please join! www.groups.yahoo.com/group/unitedjs
