-I want to buy a pair of used KEF Q70 tower speakers but they're 6 Ohm. I've heard that 4 and 6 ohm speakers require a lot more power to push them. My Pioneer is a 6.1 channel 660 watts. 110 per channel.
Any advice will be helpful. Thanks! You are right in knowing that you will need more power to push a lower Ohm speaker. Home stereo systems are made to power an 8 ohm. The problem with hooking up a lower ohm is that your stereo will push itself harder to power them, which in turn can fry your stereo. I have hooked up car subwoofers to my Sony strdh-810 7.1 and didn't have a problem, but, I wouldn't suggest it.
It should be fine. What you want to avoid is the other way around a. An amp that's too powerful is the way to kill your speakers. Those speakers require 10-175 watts of power, so you are good.
