Should my optical cable be red on both ends?

-my optical cable is red only on one end of the cable... is this right? or is my cable fried?The red light is the light coming from whatever you have the optical cable plugged into...



It's like holding a flashlight up to a tube... will the light still be there if you take away the flashlight?
