-It needs to work good in day light, have bright color, and still work ok when its far away from the screen. It has to last a while but it has to be around $600.No such beast. No projector can stand up to full daylight, specially an entry level unit, which is all your budget allows for. That is why they lower the lights in movie theaters. Your other difficult issue here has to do with the distance to the screen. If it has to be more than 16'-18' from the screen, then you will need a projector with a long lens. A typical long lens can cost well over $1,000.00 by itself. If you can lower the lights & can keep the projection distance short, then you should buy as much Epson projector as you can afford.
Projectors are designed for a dark room, it would not be ideal for a church at all. At the budget you have you are not going to find find. You would need a commercial type projector for that and the cost would be in the thousands of dollars. I use a projector to watch blu ray disc movies only. Pick up a copy of Home Theater Magazine May issue, it list about every projector in the market. Hope this will help you out.
