How do i hook up my surround sound?

-I have a tv ps3 and wii. I have a stereo system also. can i hook up my tv to my reciever so which ever input im on it will come through stereo? which output do i use and which cord or cable do i need to go buy? thanks for any help im not very good at this. I just got a new tv and the sound pretty much sucks. :(So if you just want your sound to work for now, your tv has an "audio out", take a regular rca cord (white, red, yellow) and plug the white and red into ur tv, then into audio in on ur receiver. Now, u should have the same cords for ur ps3 and wii. Do the same thing with those and plug them into your receiver. Now everything should work until you get those special cords the other guy said.If you have a receiver with HDMI input then HDMI cable out from your PS3 into a HDMI input on your receiver.

If you don't have a HDMI receiver then you need a fiber optic cable called Toslink that goes from your PS3 into your receiver (it may be called optical, toslink or S/PDIF on the back of your receiver) this is only for sound. Then use an HDMI cable between your PS3 and TV. When your PS3 detects your TV via your HDMI it will ask you if you "want to use HDMI for both video and sound" This is totally stupid but you have to say "yes" even though you are not going to use HDMI for sound. If you say no then you will have no picture, so say yes! Then you have to go into the sound options (from the suitcase logo in the XMB) and choose output sound via Optical..... Bob's your uncle
well no all you have to do is connect the audio form the PS# to the receiver and than play, the video will go to the TV and the audio will come out on the speakers of the receiver
