What is the differance between analog signal and digital in audio and video?

-I will compare and contrast Analog and Digital for you... my 9th grade English teacher would be happy! lol

Analog is simply an electrical signal

Digital consists of 1's and 0's

Digital does not need to be shielded, as it either works or it doesn't... no need to worry about interference.

Analog needs to be shielded, as it is susceptible to interference that can distort the audio/video signal.

Analog comes over copper braided wires from Amplifiers to Speakers...

Digital comes over (Most times) a fiber optic cable or HDMI cable from a DVD player or game system to the amplifier

Passive speakers require an analog cable to connect them to an amp as an analog cable also carries the power necessary to run the speakers

Powered speakers have amps built in; therefore, powered speakers may be run with digital connections to the source

Analog is more common to audio... because... Analog carries both power and signal, which is required when running large, passive, speaker systems

Digital is more common to video... because... Digital is said to carry a "Perfect" signal, which is preferred when it comes to high definition TVs

Hope this helps
