Can I connect home cinema system to pc?

-I have a sony home cinema system which consists of 4 surround speakers, 1 subwoofer and a smaller "central" speaker. which are all connected to the main box which is the dvd/cd player (sorry for my lack of technological terminology). This system is connected to the tv by an hdmi cable. Is it possible to connect this system to my laptop? Perhaps this would require some kind of compatability program?I see what you are trying to do here, it can be done but its not easy or cheap. You will need a new amp, why do you need a amp because it converts the signal comming from your pc via a 3.5mm headphone jack and convert it into signal compatible with your home cinema system. Alternatively you could add a dedicated sound card with audio out, so you can join the pc output to your sytem.

If i was in your situation, i would go for the sound card option, its much cheaper and prices for sound card are not very expensive. I hope this helped.
My pc is connected to my home cinema. I used a fibre optic cable from my pc to the home cinema. If your laptop does not have this type of connection. Check to see if your home cinema has analogue audio inputs. These will be red and white phono sockets. If it has these, then you can get a lead from headphone jack to phono. Then you can connect that way.
Does your laptop have an HDMI output?
